A diary entry for this work is recorded in Hand to Earth (1990), p. 57 as follows:
30.12.Sun. Ice Workshop. Made arch over a pile of sticks - waited for it to freeze - temperature going up and down - thawing then freezing - managed to get out most of the sticks - lost concentration for a moment - all sticks loose but somehow knocked arch and caused its collapse. Not really frozen enough. So close. Photograph of the arch collapsing by my wife Judith - I am under the falling ice.
